Website : http://crumpledpaper.caWhen did you join the Quilting Bee: Not too long ago ^^ I got approved on Oct 7th, 2007.
What made you want to join the Quilting Bee: I've always loved art and pixels and cute things. And I'd seen pixel trading clubs around and what not but nothing really ever stood out to me. Well, one day I was stumbling around the internet looking for tut's on coding php since I'm still learning >< and I found Jem's page, (which I didn't know at the time she was Queen*bee!). I ended up clicking onto her quilt page. And I spent the next 2 hours hopping from bee to bee looking at their quilts and I was instantly in love.
How did you get started pixeling: Hmm... in the early days of my LiveJournal, I was obsessed w/ making anime icons.. I started off just cropping screenshots and then slowly as I learned more and more about PSP7 and I found out how to use brushes and text and then to create them from scratch. I just got more and more into it. However, I took a huge 3 year hiatus when I fell into the hole that is World of Warcraft -_- .. and I didn't do much of anything. But now that phase is over, and!! I have a new tablet. (tablets are so nice for pixeling.. you just zoom and gogogo) I hope to really get into it again. That's one of the reasons I love this community so much. There's so much encouragement and inspiration.
What inspired you to create your first website: My very first website was created in 1995. And it was one of those horrible geocities pages. ^^ I basically had scanned pics and posted my teen angst riddled poetry. I remember how official I felt w/ my very first guestbook. What made me build it? A thirst to learn more I suppose. I've always been a geek and the internet was like.. an endless playground in which to immerse myself in geekiness. No one I knew at school had ever made one either, so it was un-chartered territory. I'd like to think I've come along way from those days ~_~ I was so excited to purchase my first domain. Crumpled paper was a bit of a joke that seemed natural choose when thinking of a name. When ever I told people I liked to draw, they'd ask what, and I'd reply w/ a bit of a cringe; "mostly crumpled paper" :) ( I'm my own worst critic)
What are some of your future goals: Well, I hit 25 this year, and it's made me think a lot about finishing school. I'm in the middle of a linguistics degree, with maybe 3 semesters to go? But I've just been putting it off; (see Warcraft hole). Fear of going back to school and not succeeding I guess? It's funny how taking one semester off can turn into 4 years. Personal goals? I'd like to keep drawing and maybe even publish a book of comics one day. I've only been drawing these comics for just under a year, but it's the most fun I've ever had art wise. So I work really hard to not let it fall away into the land of procrastination. I also have a huge folder of misc papers I like to call a book in progress sitting in a drawer. It's a collection of my poetry I pull out every so often and edit and what not, thinking one day I might get that published too. Honestly, I'm still stuck in the "living paycheck to paycheck" mode. So I don’t really think about the future for fear of panic attacks ^^
School or Work : Err.. I talked about school already, sorry ~_~ But.. to expand on that a little. With a degree in Linguistics, I'd like to go into speech pathology. That's helping people form sounds... you primarily help people w/ speech impediments, or autistic children etc etc. Communication is so important, and it can be the most frustrating thing to know that ppl can't understand you. So that line of work really calls to me. And then there's plan b. Currently I work in a call center where our main client right now is Cingular Wireless (cell phone company). I guess I can stay there forever. What's nice is there's so much time for hobbies there. Like.. I knit like crazy. And always time to draw.. since I'm just sitting in a cubicle talking to ppl on the phone. So yah... that job is nice to let me pursue personal hobbies a serious job might otherwise endanger.
Hobbies : The previous section has given me a nice segway into this section. ^^ Well, number one has to be drawing. I draw all the time. Even if I think it's bad... I just keep drawing, cause I know that one day it's going to become good ( I hope >< ). My second favorite hobby is prolly my computer and everything it encompasses. Editing art, drawing on my tablet.. Stumbling through the internet, and flash games; dear heavens I love flash games. Have any of you played Boomshine?! Best time killer ever. Website design of course, and writing in my journal too. Also up there is knitting and crocheting. How I looooove love love to knit. I'm not really good at it. But I'm always improving. Right now I'm knitting my boyfriend the "Doctor Who" scarf. He's a huge fan, and if you are too, you'll know how much work that scarf is :) I can only knit for short periods of time though, my poor hands can only take so much work. I think typing non stop for the last 10 years might have something to do with it. I'm also an avid reader, mostly fantasy, but I'll read anything if someone recommends it to be amazing. I love Robert Jordan, Guy Gavriel Kay, Mercedes Lackey, Terry Pratchett, Terry Goodkind. So many good books out there. Right now I'm reading a Tom Holt book called " Falling Sideways", it's um... really weird so far O.o
In your own words! : In my own words? I love the Q*bee! I can't believe someone nominated me. I love how open and accepting ppl can be on the internet. There's something the last Spot light bee Kirin said that made an impression on me too. In this section, she wrote; "One of the best things about having reached middle-age, is that I don't worry quite so much about what other people think of me and my hobbies." Well, it's inspiring in a way, cause I'm trying to achieve that now. I worry too much about everything >< But accepting yourself and all your quirky habits is the first step to happiness. XD Thanks again for the chance to be apart of this <3
