Nun excommunicated for approving lifesaving abortion

Tags: , , , ,

A nun in Phoenix, Arizona was excommunicated for approving a lifesaving abortion.

Rev. Thomas J. Olmsted, Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Phoenix wrote in a statement, “”If a Catholic formally cooperates in the procurement of an abortion, they are automatically excommunicated by that action.” Note that the Catholic Church doesn’t automatically excommunicate priests who sexually abuse children.

“We always must remember that when a difficult medical situation involves a pregnant woman, there are two patients in need of treatment and care; not merely one. The unborn child’s life is just as sacred as the mother’s life, and neither life can be preferred over the other,” the bishop wrote.
This wasn’t even a choice between the life of the mother and the life of the fetus. An 11-week-old fetus is not viable. If the mother dies, the fetus dies with her. Evidently Bishop Olmestead would rather have seen the woman and the fetus die instead of saving the woman.  How pro life.

This is a case where the church would rather have a women die. This is taking the pro-life stance to a frightening extreme. What about the life of the mother? So you’re telling me, (you being the religious dude who excommunicated the nun), that God and Jesus would rather see both women and the fetus die than save the one life you can? How does that even make sense?

Yes abortions shouldn’t be the morning after pill, yes people should be fully informed and educated and think hard about the choice they’re making. But if I was pregnant, and someone told me that there were complications that would cause me to die and my unborn baby along with me, what kind of choice is that? Is that not a form of suicide? Which is also frowned upon by the church?

And as I bolded in the quote above, how does saving the life of a woman rank as a more horrific crime against the church than raping children?

Really now. This is getting ridiculous.

What can I say, oh the irony. I’d be glad to see the day when Catholic Church grows brains and starts using them. Because it’s okey to destroy someone’s life but it’s not fine to try to save someone’s life. Well nothing new under Sun, woman is worth of something only when she doing her duty and being pregnant and even then her life doesn’t matter a shit.

    Proud to be excommunicated.
God hangs his head in shame as these “detached, pampered men in gilded robes on a balcony high above the rest of us”,pass judgment on women who work in the trenches of human suffering every day.
